Two county capital projects vetoed

Gov. Susana Martinez has vetoed $105,000 in projects from Curry County's capital outlay request totaling $960,000.

The biggest cut by Martinez on Wednesday was $100,000 requested to help pay for county road improvements. She also vetoed a $5,000 request for a sign at the Lincoln-Jackson Family Center in Clovis.

Projects in county's request approved by the governor:

  • $177,000 for land purchases to help expansion at Cannon Air Force Base.
  • $278,000 earmarked for pipeline construction in the Clovis effluent reuse project.
  • $350,000 to improve roads surrounding the proposed Tres Amigas project north of Clovis.
  • $100,000 for Grady to purchase a fire truck.
  • $5,000 for Melrose schools to purchase vocational equipment.
  • $50,000 for improving the water system in Melrose.

Martinez cut nearly $23 million from a capital improvement measure by vetoing more than 190 projects across New Mexico, including money to furnish a new courthouse in Santa Fe.
