City announces giraffe naming contest

The city of Clovis announced Friday a contest to name the giraffe born Jan. 25 in the Hillcrest Park Zoo.

The Parks and Recreation Department is accepting suggestions via mail to 500 Sycamore, Clovis, NM 88101. Entries should include contact information for the submitter, including a name, address and phone number or email address. The contest winner will be honored with a plaque and receive a family year pass to the zoo.

The 6-foot, 120-pound female calf is receiving care from zoo staff, and Parks and Recreation Director Bill Bizzell said the giraffe will be available for public viewing when the weather warms up.
