Residents warned of jury duty phone scam

Curry and Roosevelt County residents are cautioned to be wary of a phone scam claiming to be connected with jury duty service in the 9th Judicial District.

A resident recently reported receiving a phone call in which the caller —who claimed to be with the clerk’s office of the 9th Judicial District Court — asked for a Social Security number and birth date to verify juror information, according to a press release from the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Court personnel will not call citizens and ask for personal information and if such a call is received, residents are advised to tell the caller they will call the courts themselves or go in person to the clerk’s office to provide the information, the release said.

Anyone who has received similar calls is asked to contact the district attorney’s office at 769-2246 or the Curry County Sheriff’s Office at 769-2335.

Callers may remain anonymous.
