Kitchen tips

Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

Today in history

On this day in 1969, the Woodstock Music Festival opens on a patch of farmland in White Lake, a hamlet in the upstate New York town of Bethel.

Somewhat improbably, the chaotic gathering of half a million young "hippies" lived up to its billing of "Three Days of Peace and Music."
