Top teacher

Adam Quintero, a Clovis native, has been accepted to the Teach for America 2011 corps.

Teach For America says it is national corps of top recent college graduates who commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools.

Today in history

On this day in 1881, Sheriff Pat Garrett shoots Henry McCarty, popularly known as Billy the Kid, to death at the Maxwell Ranch in New Mexico.

Garrett had been tracking the Kid for three months after the gunslinger had escaped from prison only days before his scheduled execution.
