CCC board approves contract for next president

The Clovis Community College board of trustees approved a five-year, $145,000 a year contract Wednesday for incoming president Becky Rowley.

Rowley, CCC’s executive vice president, was chosen as President John Neibling’s successor in April. Neibling announced in February he is retiring in August after five years as president.

Rowley said she will assume the duties of president on July 18.

Neibling’s salary is $144,585 and Rowley’s current salary is $126,700.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the 2011-2013 Clovis Community College catalog.

The catalog is updated every two years by the curriculum council of CCC. Changes included adding a section on email as a means of communication, a certificate of achievement, a certificate of completion and adding an associates of applied science in health information technology and certificates of completion in medical billing and coding and medical transcription.

The alternative licensure program, associates of applied science degree in electrical apprenticeship and associates degree in engineering were eliminated. Rowley said each of the eliminated degrees had little enrollment and couldn’t be sustained. The engineering degree was funded by a grant which has expired and Rowley said that combined with low attendance led to the program being cut.

• Approved a professional service contract for insurance with the current provider called Western State Insurance Group.

The cost for insurance totaled $236,248.

• Approved a maintenance and service contract with Sun Gard for Banner, the administrative software which most colleges use to handle their online processes, according to Neibling.

The services will cost $129,583.38.

• Approved refunding of CCC’s 2001 revenue bonds in the amount of $1,360,000.

The bonds, which were originally financed at almost 5 percent interest, will be refinanced at 2.5 percent. The savings to the college total $171,424.05 over 10 years.

• The next board meeting is at 8 a.m. Aug. 3 in room 512.
