Clovis police say witnesses came to the aid of a Clovis woman robbed Friday morning, chasing and holding the suspect until officers arrived.

Rondy Q. McDonald, 24, was arrested for robbery and taken to Curry County jail.

Around 10 a.m. a woman was entering Allsups at Grand Avenue and Prince Street when she was approached by a man who asked her for a cigarette, according to a press release from Clovis Police.

The woman told police when she said she didn’t have one, the man punched her in the face, grabbed a money bag she was holding and ran south, the release said.

When the woman screamed for help, a group of men chased McDonald in their vehicle. The men caught and held McDonald near Fourth and Oak Streets until police arrived and took him into custody, the release said.

Police said the woman was not seriously injured.
