Thunderstorm hammers Clovis

Clovis dealt with flash flooding and hail late Saturday night.

As of 11 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service in Albuquerque had recorded .76 inches of rain at the Clovis Municipal Airport and .67 inches at Cannon Air Force Base.

About 9:45 p.m, spotters reported heavy rain and flooding from a group of thunderstorms over the city. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour, with 1 to 2 feet of water reported on Prince Street and Grand Avenue. Additional flooding was reported on 21st Street. Some areas of Clovis received golf-ball sized hail.

Some areas, including the intersection of Mabry and Sycamore, were closed due to water.

The Clovis Police Department responded to multiple incidents of stalled cars.
