Video store seeks letters, cards from community for soldiers

Landall’s Box Office in Portales is reaching out to the community for cards and letters to send along with the movies they give the to the troops stationed overseas.

“We would like for the whole town to show their support,” said Peggy Goolsby, store manager. “Cannon is a part of our town and we thought that if people bring in a card or a letter in, we’ll put them in our boxes.”

Goolsby said they will be accepting cards and letters for the next six weeks. They can be dropped off at the store

“We donate movies and when we have a box ready we call a lady we know,” Goolsby said. “Her husband is deployed over seas most of the time and she knows when they are sending things out. She takes the box to Cannon and they ship it from there.”

Last year, Landall’s Box Office sent 1,600 movies to the troops. They have been doing this for the past 10 years. There is no limit on letters or cards that can sent.
