Man tased; arrested for shoving officer

A 29-year-old Clovis man was shot with a Taser and arrested for assaulting an officer trying to diffuse a fight Saturday outside the Milk Lover’s Ball.

Derrell Hanson was released Sunday on $5,000 bond. He is charged with felony battery on a peace officer.

According to police, while taking an unrelated auto burglary report, Officer Brian Encinias saw two men fighting about 11 p.m. in the parking lot at the Clovis Civic Center.

In his report, Encinias said as he moved towards the pair on the ground fighting, Hanson burst through a large crowd of bystanders.

Encinias said Hanson was waving his hands as if he was going to strike him. He said Hanson then cursed at him and shoved him, using both hands.

Encinias said he responded by using his Taser to subdue Hanson and arrested him.

Hanson could not be reached for comment.
