Last outing: The Greyhounds lost at Tarleton State 76-36 on Wednesday, while the Mustangs routed West Texas A&M 90-69 at Wichita Falls, Texas.

Notes: Tarleton’s defensive effort Wednesday marked the first time the Texans have held an LSC opponent under 40 points since a 60-39 win over Texas A&M-Commerce in 1997. … It was Tarleton’s second 40-point win at home over ENMU in three seasons (84-44 in 2008). The Texans broke the game open with a 31-3 run spanning halftime and turning a 21-17 game into a 32-point rout. … Midwestern State, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II, bounced back Wednesday from its first loss of the season (84-76 at Angelo State on Jan. 13). … The Mustangs held WT to five field goals in the first half and 11 heading into the game’s final media timeout with 3:38 left. It was their 20th consecutive win at home. … Four players average in double figures for MSU, led by 6-2 senior G Craig Green (15.3 ppg) and 5-9 junior G Chris Hogan (14.0). … The Mustangs blew out the Hounds 83-44 at Wichita Falls last season, but had a difficult time in the rematch at Portales before winning 94-90.

Last outing: The Zias played well much of the game before losing at No. 24 Tarleton State 55-43 on Wednesday, while the Mustangs lost at home to No. 11 West Texas A&M 82-62.

Notes: Wednesday’s loss to WT was Midwestern’s 20th in a row against ranked opponents, dating to 2004. … Sophomore F Cierra Thompson led the Mustangs with 14 points and six rebounds against the Lady Buffs. … Midwestern State is 2-5 on the road, but has won two of its last three away from home. … Leading scorers for the Mustangs are 5-11 junior G/F Aqueelah Watkins (12.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg), 5-10 junior F Nolisha Markham (11.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg) and 5-10 sophomore F Savannah Carver (10.1 ppg). … MSU won competitive games from the Zias last season, 66-58 at Wichita Falls and 64-59 at Portales. … ENMU’s last South win came against the Mustangs, a 75-56 decision at Greyhound Arena in the 2007-08 season finale.
