Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The Portales Dream Center is in the process of being rebuilt after high winds blew the roof off last March.
Victory Life Church and the Dream Center board decided it would be better to build another facility than to replace the roof.
“We decided to build a new building and we’re still working on it,” Dream Center volunteer Gail Kenner said. “We completed the outside, now we’re working on the inside.
“There was a lot more damage than was thought and it is cheaper to build a new building,” Keener said. “The old building needed a lot of repairs, we decided it would be more feasible to do it this way.”
Keener said the estimate to repair the roof was $80,000 while rebuilding would cost between $70,000 to $80,000.
Keener said she thinks the center will reopen in March or April, in time to celebrate its seventh anniversary.
“We're excited about getting the center up and running so we can help people again,” Keener said.
The Dream Center is a collection of furniture, clothes, food, household items and other staples donated for those in need.
