Press release: Man stabbed Saturday near Portales

According to a release from the Roosevelt County Sheriff's Office:

Deputies from the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office arrested Douglas Wood (52), of Portales, on Saturday, December 5th, 2009 for Aggravated Battery Against a Household Member with a Deadly Weapon after they were dispatched to his home located 1596 New Mexico 236 in Roosevelt County.

At approximately 7:00 PM, Deputies were dispatched to the residence in reference to a stabbing victim. Upon their arrival Deputies discovered that Jeffery Wood (48) had suffered a stab would in the stomach during an argument over money with his brother Douglas Wood.

The investigation revealed that the brothers began arguing and during the argument Douglas threatened Jeffery with a knife. Jeffery and Douglas closed distance on each other and Jeffery was stabbed once in the stomach. Deputies were able to recover evidence on scene and arrested Douglas Wood at the residence without incident.

Deputies administered first aid to Jeffery Wood until the arrival of EMS. Jeffery was transported to the Roosevelt General Hospital by EMS personnel with the Portales Fire Department and subsequently flown to Covenant Medical Center for treatment. Jeffery was listed in stable condition at last contact.

Douglas Wood was booked into the Roosevelt County Detention Center and is being held without bond. Aggravated Battery Against a Household Member with a Deadly Weapon is a 3rd degree felony.
