Clovis man shot in abdomen

Freedom New Mexico

A 28-year-old Clovis man was in surgery Monday night after police said he was shot in the abdomen that afternoon.

Clovis Police Sgt. Mike Harmer said Francisco Elvedo’s condition was unknown Monday night and he was undergoing surgery at Plains Regional Medical Center.

At the time the shooting was reported to police, they said Elvedo was alert and communicating.

The shooting occurred on Curry Road E, somewhere between Curry Roads 5 and 6, Harmer said.

As a result, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation.

“They’re still talking to people involved,” he said.

“We’re not exactly sure what happened.”

No arrests had been made Monday night, he said.

According to Harmer, police were dispatched to the 300 block of Calhoun Street for a report of a shooting victim just after 4:30 p.m. Monday. Officers had to wait for his evaluation by medical personnel at Plains Regional Medical Center to determine how serious his injuries were and a language barrier slowed the investigation, Harmer said.
