City seeking Hull Street bids

The city began soliciting bids Sunday for construction of the Hull Street Overpass.

The overpass was closed in July 2008 after an engineer’s report cited structural safety issues.

The New Mexico State Transportation Improvement Program granted the city a $6.5 million allowance this month to help complete construction.

City Manager Joe Thomas said in a city press release the city commission intends to award the bid at its Nov. 5 meeting.

Thomas said the goal is to begin construction by the end of 2009, with completion in the second or third quarter of 2010.

Approximately 4,300 vehicles per day are being redirected to overpasses on Prince Street and N.M. 467 and across Martin Luther King Boulevard.
