Services set for Elida chief

Elida Fire Chief Adam Anthony, 45, died from an apparent heart attack Thursday while hunting Elk around Ruidoso.

According to a news release, a firefighter’s funeral is tentatively set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elida High School Gymnasium.

Anthony grew up in Elida. He was farmer and worked with the youth ministry for a short time.

Elida basketball coach Darrell Chenault, a longtime friend, said Anthony loved to hunt and loved being a firefighter.

John Hatcher, Region III Emergency Management Service director, said Anthony’s personality stood out the most.

“He was friends with everybody. I don’t know how to describe it,” Hatcher said. “Didn’t matter where you were, he always knew somebody or was friends with somebody.”
