Oasis State Park hosting fishing derby

Friends of Oasis State Park is staging a Biggest Catfish Challenge Derby from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Registration is open from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

All ages can participate in the derby, which offers prizes ranging from $10 to $75. Prizes are to be awarded based on the weight of the fish.

Children 11 years old and younger are in the junior category and have a $3 entry fee. People 12 years old and older are in the senior category and must pay a $5 entry fee and have a valid New Mexico fishing license.

A park entrance fee of $5 per vehicle applies for people who don’t have annual permits.

There is a two-fish bag limit per person because Oasis is part of the state Game and Fish Special Summer Catfish Waters program.
