The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Curry County chapter faces potential closure.
Joe Urban, who has been president of the chapter for more than 20 years, said New Mexico NARFE President Mary Ellen McKay and Vice President Tom Anderson will meet with him Monday for further planning.
Urban said he has been unable to find a willing slate of officers for the group, which hasn’t had an official meeting in more than a year. Urban has health concerns and isn’t sure he can continue in the leadership role.
“If we could find three people who want to take the responsibility for being officers,” McKay said, “we definitely would not close it.”
The chapter was chartered in April 1974.
If the chapter closes, the 46 members will be required to choose a new association with a statewide Internet chapter or the Roswell, Tucumcari or Pecos River chapter.
Members who wish to volunteer can contact McKay at 575-527-4750.
