Woman arrested on drug charge

Roosevelt County sheriff’s deputies seized about a pound marijuana, drug paraphernalia and $500 from a Portales residence on Thursday, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

A 24-year-old female was arrested leaving the residence on misdemeanor drug charge and for resisting arrest. A sheriff’s deputy used a Taser to immobilize the woman when she refused to cooperate, the release said.

Sheriff Darren Hooker said police made contact with several other people in the residence while executing a search warrant at 821 S. Ave C. and additional arrests are pending.

Police received a tip about narcotics activity at the residence, according to the release.
