Ag center hosting peanut field day

The Agricultural Science Center of Clovis will have its annual Peanut Field Day on Monday.

Registration will be at the Eastern New Mexico University Farm in Portales from 8 a.m. 8:30 a.m.

A tour led by Paxton Payton, a physiologist for the USDA-ARS, cropping systems research lab in Lubbock will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the ENMU Farm.

A second tour, featuring speakers Russell Nuti, Mark Marsalis, Naveen Puppala, Jamie Ayers and Soum Sanogo will begin at 10 a.m. at Joel Shearer’s farm. The farm is about 12 miles from the first tour, on Cacahuate Road (N.M. 202), four miles from the state line in Farwell.

Participants will view planting pattern studies, fertility studies, peanut breeding plots, high oleic Valencia-Spanish cross and biofungicide experiments.
