Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
A Clovis business owner said he plans to run in the county election.
Charles Guthals, 71, said he will run for the District 5 County Commission seat. The seat is currently held by Tim Ashley, who cannot run for re-election because of term limits.
Guthals said he believes his experience as a board of education member, a business owner, and a member of various committees qualifies him for the position.
“I want to serve to the best of my ability and handle,” he said.
Guthals served on the Clovis Board of Education for 27 years and also on the New Mexico School Boards Association. He is a member of the Clovis Community College Board of Trustees.
Guthals will be running against former State Senator Caleb Chandler for the District 5 seat.
Candidates for elected county positions need to sign up on March 18.
Party primaries are June 3.
The general election is Nov. 4.
