The city of Portales and the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce will hold a Candidate Forum on Monday to give residents of the city the opportunity to get to know the candidates prior to the election, according to a news release.
The forum will begin with refreshments at 5:30 p.m. and the panel presentation at 6 p.m. It will be held in the Memorial Building at 200 E. 7th St. in Portales.
The election will take place on Tuesday, March 4, with four city council positions on the ballot. Only two positions are contested but all candidates will be invited to the forum. The ballot will include:
Ward A: Alfredo Bachicha (incumbent)
Ward B: Michael Q. Martinez and Gary L. Watkins (incumbent)
Ward C: Donald K. Shafter (incumbent)
Ward D: Michael G. Miller (incumbent), and Keith Thomas
Following brief introductions, the candidates will answer questions prepared prior to the forum as well as questions submitted from the audience, according to the release. Candidates will have a limited amount of time to answer each question. At the conclusion of the evening, each candidate will have the opportunity to offer final comments.
