Sex offender captured in Texas

A convicted Roosevelt County sex offender was captured last week in Texas after he was profiled on the TV show “America’s Most Wanted,” according to Roosevelt County Sheriff Darren Hooker.

Raymond Gates, 48, was arrested on outstanding warrants from Roosevelt and Curry counties. He is charged with failure to comply with conditions of release imposed by the 9th Judicial District Court and failure to report to adult probation as ordered April 15, 2005, according to information released by the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials from the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office will travel Monday to Wichita Falls, Texas, to pick up Gates, Chief Deputy Malin Parker said.

Gates was arrested Aug. 20, 2004, in Roosevelt County and charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor under 13, according to Parker. Gates was convicted and served time in prison for the crime.

Since that time, Gates has been arrested several times for failure to comply to conditions and for failure to register as a sex offender. He has been a fugitive since May 2, 2005, according to sheriff’s office officials.

“He’s a convicted sex offender, and it’s one less sex offender on the street,” said Hooker of Gate’s arrest.
