Zias easily handle Embry-Riddle, cruise through home match

The Eastern New Mexico womens soccer team won their second game in a row, to start the 2006 season by beating Embry-Riddle 2-0, Saturday morning at the ENMU soccer field.

Zia head coach Travis McCorkle used the game to get some younger players game experience.

“Today we tried to rest some of our girls,” McCorkle said, “We wanted to get some of our substitutes into the game.”

One of the subs McCorkle was referring to, was senior forward Megan Dozier.

In the 27th minute of the second half, Dozier blasted a shot past the Embry-Riddle keeper for the first score of the game.

Junior forward Amy Wilcox followed that, with a score of her own in the second half, to lead the Zias to a 2-0 victory.

Despite the win, McCorkle still found flaws.

“We weren’t in sync as much as we’d like,” he said, “The bottom line is we got the result that we needed, and we can move forward from here.”

The Zias dominated the match, out-shooting Embry-Riddle 13-7.

The ENMU women are now 2-0 and host Montana State-Billings at 1 p.m. today.
