Student profiles: Young, Sweat, Jones

Rachael Young is a senior at Clovis High School. She is the daughter of Anthony and Kelly Young.

What is your greatest hope? My greatest hope is that one day soon all the soldiers overseas would come home because the war would be over and world peace would be served.

Who is your hero and why? My mother. One reason is because she has five kids and, in the beginning, she raised my first brother all on her own. Also, my father is military and he used to go on temporary duties, and when he did, my mom would raise us all by herself. Another reason is that no matter what obstacles life throws her way, she always stays strong, not only for herself, but also for her family. I hope I grow up to be half the woman she is because I don’t know anyone as loving, honest and strong as my mother.

Tell us about your pets: I have a Pomeranian named Peanut. We got him when I was in sixth grade. He can be really mean at times, but he is loving and kind at heart.

Do you have a favorite joke? There was a blonde, a brunette, and a red head. One day, they were all running away from the cops. So, they decided to go into a barn and each of them hid in a potato sack. The cops went into the barn looking for them. One cop kicked the potato sack with the brunette in it and it said, “Meow.” The cops said, “Oh , that is just a cat.” Then, he kicked the sack with the red head in it and it said, “Ruff, ruff.” The cop said, “Oh, that is just a dog.” Then, he went to the sack with the blonde it, kicked it, and it said, “Sack of potatoes.” The cops arrested the blonde.

Tell us about a time when you cried: I am a very emotional person, but there is one time I cried that I will always remember and that was after our first performance at the cheerleading state competition in Albuquerque this year. A few days before we left for the competition, my flyer could not go because of her grades. When I heard this from my coach, I cried my eyes out. We did not know what we were going to do, but we got some of the cheerleaders together and worked it all out. We changed a few things and added two new flyers in the air for the routine. After we performed our routine on the first day, we were all crying happy tears because we had just done our routine perfectly. It was the greatest feeling ever.

School activities: Cheerleading

Hobbies: Cheering, scrapbooking and shopping

Nick Sweat is a senior at Clovis High School. He is the son of Karen Sweat.

What is your favorite TV show, past and present? “CSI.”

What’s so great about your favorite sport? Football allows you to hit people without getting in trouble. You get to hang around with people that become like a family to you.

What do you envision your life being like in 10 years? I will have a job as a teacher/coach or athletic trainer or be married.

What’s your favorite part about school? Being in athletics and hanging out with my friends.

What do you not like about being in school? I dislike having a lot of homework.

School activities: Football, basketball, SADD, FCA, SCAT (Students Concerned about Tobacco)

Church/community activities: First United Methodist Church member

Hobbies: Playing video games and football

Future plans: Attend college to become a teacher/coach or athletic trainer.

Whitney Jones is a senior at Clovis High School. She is the daughter of Brian and DeLinda Jones.

What is your idea of a perfect day? Sunny, but not too hot, and warm with a breeze and just being able to relax outside.

Tell us about your pets: I have a cocker spaniel named Saddee. She’s adorable.

What is your favorite show, past and present? “Friends.”

What is your favorite taste? My favorite taste is Italian food. I love it.

What is your most prized possession? Sadly, I would have to say my cell phone, my car, or my computer. I would be lost without them.

Honors received: Honor Roll, National Junior Honor Society, Student Rotarian, All-District Academic, 2005 Collie Rogers Golf Award, Who’s Who Among American High School Students

Hobbies: Golf, wake boarding, skiing and hanging out with my friends

Future plans: I plan on attending Eastern New Mexico University for a year and then transfer to New Mexico State University, and major in business.
