Free radon tests available

The New Mexico Environment Department is offering free residential radon test kits, while supplies last, during its January campaign against indoor radon.

According to a press release from NMED, radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas found in most soils. It is linked to lung cancer when individuals are exposed to the gas when trapped in homes.

The kits can be obtained by contacting Michael A. Taylor at (505) 827-1093 or by e-mail at [email protected].

FSA accepting loan applications.

Curry and Roosevelt Counties in New Mexico were declared contiguous counties and eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA) disaster emergency loans on Nov. 23. The designation was the result of losses caused by excessive rain, flash flooding, lightning, hail and high winds that occurred on Aug. 27.

Farmers who have suffered physical and production losses are eligible for emergency assistance, provided eligibility requirements are met. Farmers who are interested in receiving an emergency loan should contact the FSA office as soon as possible. FSA will take into account the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.The deadline is July 24, 2006.

The FSA, Farm Loan Program office servicing this area and accepting applications is located at 918 Parkland Drive, Clovis or call 762 4769 Ext. 102. Interested parties can also call or visit the Roosevelt County FSA office at 705 E. Canadian St., Portales, or call 356-6629 for information.

Sunday school at Floyd Baptist Church is at 9:45 a.m. and church service is at 10:45 a.m.

Members of the Floyd Methodist Church are in the process of updating their history book. Items needed are pictures, articles, and stories from 1970 to the present. If you have any of these you would like to contribute, please contact Sherry Fahrenkrug at 478-2574.

Couple celebrates 60th anniversary

The children and grandchildren of Clarence and Letha Thompson are hosting an anniversary celebration of 60 years of marriage for the couple. The gathering will be Dec. 31 at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ from 2-4pm. No gifts are requested.

Milnesand holds holiday program

The Milnesand Baptist Church had its Christmas program and worship service Sunday morning.

Albuquerque visitors received

Barbara and Wiley Teel’s daughter’s family was here from Albuquerque. They are Melissa and Francis Phillips and their two children. They had a time of feasting and togetherness in the home of their grandparents, Ruby and Elton Parkinson of Milnesand. They were joined by a grandson, Wayne Parkinson’s family and grandchildren from Tatum.

Californians visit Tollet family

Dennis and Colene Tollet had their daughter and her husband here from California for Christmas. They also attended Dora Baptist Church on Sunday. Attendance was down at church due to so many family dinners.

Houston callers at Carmichael’s

Tina Carmichael, Trent and Tara were accompanied by her mother, Kathy Trahan to Albuquerque to be with “Maws” and “Paws” Chesley for Christmas. They came by Charlie Carmichael’s house and spent part of Friday night resting before going on to Albuquerque Saturday for their Christmas break visit. They had to be back in Houston for work on Tuesday morning.
