Staff Reports

Col. John Posner, commander at Cannon Air Force Base was recently nominated for a promotion to brigadier general.

Q. How long have you been at Cannon?

A. 18 months

Q. Could you describe your daily duties?

A. There are just under 4,000 people here at Cannon. Most daily duties are handled by the individual units. I am responsible for the less routine things that come up.

Q. How did you feel when you were selected for this honor?

A. I consider it a vote of confidence. I am very honored. Just like any other promotion, it is nice to be recognized.

Q. Who was the first person you told?

A. My lovely wife.

Q. What would your new responsibilities include as general?

A. I don’t know that there will really be any changes, but there is always a chance a promotion will bring a new set of responsibilities.

Q. What are your future plans and goals?

A. My family and I have a mindset — we are happy wherever we go.

Q. Did you always want to be in the military?

A. No. I was like every other kid I think. I wanted to be a doctor or a baseball player.

Q. Did you ever think you would achieve this level in the military?

A. I don’t think I ever really considered it.

Q. How did you feel when the BRAC decision was handed down?

A. My whole world is Cannon, so it would be inappropriate and unfair for me to comment.

Q. Have you heard if or when an assignment team would be coming to Cannon?

A. No. I just know that the 27th Fighter Wing will continue to pursue its mission.
