Four arrested on drug charges

Portales Police arrested four people on drug charges Monday after serving a search warrant in the 800 block of North Avenue I in Portales.

The bust came about after officers, working with a confidential informant performed an undercover drug buy at the residence on Sunday, said Capt. Lonnie Berry of the Portales Police.

According to the police report, arrested were David A. Montoya, 56, of Portales on one count of distribution of a controlled substance, one count of tampering with evidence, four counts of abandonment or abuse of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia; Cecilia Montoya, 52, on one count of accessory to distribution of a controlled substance and four counts of abandonment or abuse of a child; Manuel Gallegos, 32, on one count of accessory to distribution of a controlled substance, four counts of abandoment or abuse of a child and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia; and Bridget Montoya-Gallegos, 29, one count of accessory to distribution of a controlled substance, four counts of abandoment or abuse of a child and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

A total of 186 gross grams of marijuana was seized in the raid with a street value of $375 to $400, according to Berry.

“We knew that (David Montoya) had been selling there for awhile,” said Berry. “He was moving enough that it caught our attention.”

A number of weapons were also seized in the raid according to the report.

Bond amounts ranged from $31,500 for David Montoya to $25,000 for Cecilia Montoya. By Saturday, when the PNT checked with the Roosevelt County Detention Center, all four had been released on bond.
