Police blotter: Jan. 9, 2005

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Police were dispatched Thursday to the 1200 block of N. Prince Street in reference to a shots-fired call. There was a report that someone had shot himself in the hand and was on the way to the hospital.

Officers drove to the hospital and made contact with the man who said he was in the process of cleaning his friend’s gun when it discharged into his hand.

The bullet struck his left palm and exited the left edge of his hand.

A doctor said one bone was broken as a result of the gunshot wound. The handgun, unspent bullets, spent bullets and casing were placed into evidence.

No charges will be filed.

Police were dispatched Dec. 29 to the 4700 block of Mabry Drive in reference to a drunk driver.

The responding officers first saw the man urinating in a parking lot.

As they approached he jumped back in his car. But the police gave him a field sobriety test. He was determined fit to drive the vehicle, but he was cited for indecent exposure.

Police met a female complainant Dec. 28 in the police station lobby.

Her left eye was bruised and swollen, so the officer asked what had happened. She said her husband had gotten physical with her and for the previous two days her husband had forbidden her to go outside of the house.

She said her husband forced her to make a voice recording and write a letter absolving him of any involvement in her injuries.

According to the woman, she and her husband got in an argument the day after Christmas and he grabbed her hair and pushed her around.

Her picture was taken and her statement was entered into evidence. Social workers were present during her statements.

Police responded Dec. 28 to the 2400 block of Axtell Street in reference to a fight.

One of the men involved in the fight was observed to be extremely drunk. He was being verbally abusive of residents in the area. The officer asked him to stop three times.

He continued to insult people in the area with derogatory remarks.

The officer arrested the subject and took him to jail.
