Mickey Haas, 67

Mr. Mickey E. Haas, 67, of Portales, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at his home.

He was born on June 9, 1937, in Carlsbad, to Rueben and Rowena Ansley Haas.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1957, serving in Vietnam for three years and retiring in 1984. He had been a resident of Portales since March, moving from Big Spring, Texas. He had worked as a security guard and investigator for Special Response Corporation and was a paramedic in Garza and Lubbock counties. At the time of his illness he was working for Lisa Motor Lines Trucking Company as a truck driver. He was a member of the Potawatomi Indian Agency and Trinity Family Center in Portales.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marion Haas; his wife, Dorothy Janice Griffey; and a son, Michael Eaton Haas.

Survivors include a son, Mike Anderson of Pensecola, Fla.; four daughters, Haleigh Alexis Bird of Portales, Sheryl Anderson of Fairfax, Ohio, Kelly Shackelford of Garland, Texas, and Meridean Haas of Lubbock; a brother, Clenard Haas of Kuna, Idaho; a nephew, Robby Haas of Amarillo; a companion, Donna Beasley of Portales; and a friend, Mona Lisa Ake of Portales; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Family Center, 601 S. Ave. B in Portales. Jim Maxwell will officiate the services.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. (CDT) Thursday at the National Cemetery in Dallas.

Pallbearers Jack Bates, John Brantley, Carl Parmer, Merk Rhea, Dale Simmons and Jerry Wren.

Honorary pallbearers are Rocky Vieira and employees of Lisa Motor Lines.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
