Ralph Rucker, 83, of Amarillo, and formerly of Floydada, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at the BSA Hospice in Amarillo.

He was born on June 5, 1920, in Childress, Texas, to Erve and Myrtle Bethany Rucker.

He graduated from high school in Childress, Texas. He married Patricia Mary Davidson on Jan. 8, 1944, in Warrington, England. He moved to Floydada in October 1951 and to Amarillo in March 2003. He served in England with Civil Service Technician Detachment from 1942 until 1944. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp from 1944 until 1946, having served in England and Guam during World War II. He was the owner of Rucker’s OK Tire Store in Floydada. He was the original co-founder of the Floydada Boy Scout Troop, lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, sponsor of Floydada Baseball and Little League and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Floydada, where he was a member of the Auditorium Class.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, a brother, J.W. Rucker; and two sisters, Dealva Henson and Faye Gaines.

Survivors include three children, Max Rucker (and wife, Cheryl) of Amarillo, Linda Woodall (Woody) of Clovis and Patrick Rucker (Kathy) of Amarillo; a brother, Troy Rucker of Redding, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Anthony D. Sisemore will officiate the services.

Burial will be in Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada.
