City manager making most of summer

Reporter's Notebook

One of eastern New Mexico’s more famous residents spent last weekend roaring around Ute Lake on a Harley.

Well, sort of.

Clovis City Manager Ray Mondragon was seen zipping around on a Harley-Davidson replica mini scooter.

The scooter goes about 25 mph and is powered by a two-cycle lawnmower engine, he said.

“It’s pretty neat ... it was pretty fun,” Mondragon said. “It’s just a fun toy.”

Mondragon said his brother-in-law owns the scooter and was at the lake with him.

It was the first time he had ridden that type of scooter, but certainly not the first time he’d been to Ute Lake.

Mondragon owns a home at the lake where he likes to relax with family there on the weekends during the summer. On Saturday and Sunday, Mondragon also spent time on the lake on his 21-foot pontoon boat.

“We were just enjoying the weekend with family,” he said.
