Mary “Sandy” Mecham, 84

Mrs. Mary “Sandy” Mecham, 84, of Tucumcari, a homemaker, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

She was born on Feb. 9, 1920, in Murphysboro, Ill., to Oscar and Mary Watt Lutz.

Family members said she will be remembered as an active sportswoman who always lived life to its fullest. She was a lifetime Presbyterian. She served as president of Presbyterian Women for many years, taught children and youth and stayed active up to the last week of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carol; two brothers, Ozzie and Robert; and a sister, Helen.

Survivors include her husband, Lee Mecham of Tucumcari; a daughter, Sharon Huffman of Big Spring, Texas; two sons, Gary Mecham of Montrose, Colo., and Patrick Mecham of Elko, Nev.; a son-in-law, Wayne Huffman; two daughters-in-law, Vonda and Melissa; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Lutz and Deede Lutz.

Services are planned for 6 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Tucumcari. Cremation will take place.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Tucumcari.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
