Virginia ‘Ginny’ Romero
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Virginia “Ginny” Romero, 62, of Clovis died Monday, May 1, 2006, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. She was born April 7, 1944, to Onesimo J. and Emma Leyba Encinias in Melrose. She married Raymond Romero on Dec. 16, 1972, in Clovis. She was a homemaker and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Family members said she loved caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, camping, cooking for everyone and shopping.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Carlos Encinias.
Survivors include her husband, of Clovis; sons, Michael Romero of Clovis, Jackie Romero (and wife, Janet) of Clovis, Donnie Romero (Becky) of Portales, Raymond J. Romero (Brenda) of Lubbock and Alex Romero (Patsy) of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; daughters, Kathy Baca (Robert) of Clovis, Renee Martinez (Marc) of Clovis and Annette Ternes (Bob) of Albuquerque; sisters, Esther Rubio (Julio Sr.) and Clara Gomez (Andrew); brother, Cipriano (Patsy), all of Clovis; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Father Carlos Chavez is officiating.
Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories. Pallbearers will be Christopher Romero, Joshua Romero, Ryan Romero and Jacob Romero, Sergio Martinez and Marc Martinez Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vincent Romero, Colin Romero, Gabriel Navarro, Tre Baca and Eric Navarro.
Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home.
J.P. ‘Jake’ Ferrell
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Portales.
J. P. “Jake” Ferrell, 86, of Portales, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at Retirement Ranch in Clovis.
He was born April 28, 1920, in Forrest to Helen and Perry Ferrell.
In 1929, the family moved to a farm near Portales. He quit school as a teen during the Depression to help support his family. On Dec. 18, 1943, he married Wilma Mullins in Clovis. He farmed northwest of Portales until 1946 when he contracted polio. When he was able to work again, he became the custodian at Portales Junior High School. He retired after 30 years.
He enjoyed collecting antiques, especially telephones, railroad date nails and oil lanterns, according to family members. They said he also made clocks out of wood, rocks and marble, built bird houses and could do virtually anything with his hands. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, family members said. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Portales.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pauline Clark.
Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years of Portales; son, James Ferrell (and wife, Carolyn); grandchildren, Tobin Tate (Shelley) of Clovis, Treya Orzel (Bill) of San Diego, Calif. and Terri Thibodeau (Roy) of Las Cruces; and great-grandchildren, Micah and Kayla Perkins, Seaver and Teryn Tate, and Tyson, Tatum and Tobin Orzel.
Rev. Darryl Tennefos will officiate.
Burial will take place in Portales Cemetery.
Dennis Darrow, Jim Love, Delman Shirley, Bill Dalley, Tobin Tate and Jeff Terry will serve as pallbearers.
Emmitt Clayton, Jim Warnica, Kenneth Musick, Leon Musick, Larry Cantwell, Polk Clark, Dr. Les Donaldson and Frank Greathouse will be honorary pallbearers.
