Bonnie Brown, 73, of Carlsbad died Friday, March 5, 2004, at Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest-Northgate Unit in Carlsbad.

She was born and raised in Portales, where she graduated from high school.

She married Pryde Brown on July 31, 1948, in Portales. The couple moved to Carlsbad in 1957.

While in Portales, she worked as the deputy county clerk for five years.

She lived in Illinois for two and a half years while her husband was stationed at Scott Air Force Base.

She worked as a church secretary for 25 years at Sunset Church of Christ, Carlsbad, before retiring in November 1989.

Family members said her hobbies included cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, art in all forms and painting.

They also said she taught Bible classes for 45 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Dawn Ann (and husband Chris) Schamp, of Carlsbad, and Derinda Gay (Alva) Carter of Portales; four grandchildren, Whitney Leyva and Jacob Leyva, both of Carlsbad, Aaron Carter of Norfolk, Va., and Ashley Carter of Portales; and two sisters, Cleo Nell (Cotton) Mitchell of Logan and Bobby Lou (Bob) Cannady of Albuquerque.

Cotton Mitchell will officiate the memorial service.
