Parched Clovis gets moisture

Some Clovis-area weather observers reported as much as 0.9 of an inch of rain by early Monday evening as a weather front approached, but most reported about a tenth of an inch or less.

National Weather Service forecasters predicted the rain would turn to snow later in the evening, possibly generating up to 2 inches overnight as the temperatures dropped into the lower 30s.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory until 5 p.m. Tuesday and reported a possible total snow accumulation for Curry County of 2 to 4 inches.

“Basically there is a slow-moving area of low pressure aloft and, combined with a cold front that slid down from the eastern plains, it’s bringing in the moisture,” said meteorologist Jeff Michalski of the National Weather Service office in Albuquerque. “We expect it to gradually switch over to rain Tuesday as the temperatures rise.”
