High-speed chase in Clovis ends with wrecked car, arrested driver

An 18-year-old Clovis man was arrested Tuesday after leading three law enforcement agencies on a chase that ended with the man crashing his car.

Officials said the chase exceeded 70 mph and the man’s two stepchildren were inside the car. No one was seriously injured, officials said.

Complaints against Sergio Silguero, 18, include aggravated fleeing from a police officer, aggravated driving while intoxicated, child abuse, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon upon a police officer, no child restraints, reckless driving and speeding.

Curry County Sheriff Roger Hatcher said the chase began about 4 p.m. Tuesday when Deputy David Kube clocked a vehicle driving 76 mph down Brady west of Hull Street. The chase continued down South Main to Mississippi, up North Prince, and then to Brady where the vehicle missed a turn and crashed. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers.

“He had two little babies in the car with him, 1 1/2 years old, 2 years old, two precious little girls,” Hatcher said. “When I got there, one of them was crying and the other was just standing in the seat; neither of them had a seat belt on.

“It completely amazes me that people have so little regard for the lives of their children that they would drive in this manner,” Hatcher said.

A routine attempt by Curry County deputies to serve a domestic violence restraining order on a resident of the 200 block of Lydia Street led to two drug arrests on Feb. 6 after Deputy Michael Brocket noticed a smell of marijuana coming from under the door, according to Curry County Sheriff Roger Hatcher.

Tony Dierking, 29, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Billy Griffin, 33, was charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

Hatcher said it was the second time in 45 days that unrelated law enforcement activities have led to a drug arrest.

In late December, Deputy David Kube stopped a vehicle for a license plate violation and discovered marijuana roaches, drug paraphernalia, and eight gallons of iodine, a key ingredient for manufacturing methamphetamine.

Hatcher said Rico Curry, 27, and passenger Gari McClain, 26, both of Rio Rancho, were arrested on associated traffic violations and drug charges.

Court records report that Curry was arrested on associated traffic violations and attempted trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. McClain was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine.
