Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:
A junior high assistant principal called police about 2 p.m. Jan. 27 to report a fight that had occurred between two female students, both 13 years old, just before school. School staff advised police that both students had already been suspended and sent home for the day. One of the girls was bleeding from the right side of her face when they were brought to the school office.
In a written statement, a school teacher said she saw the two girls fighting when she got out of her car and succeeded in breaking them up by grabbing them by their shirts.
Police pulled over a car speeding at least 10 miles over the 35 mph limit on 14th Street near Sycamore about 1 a.m. Jan. 30, and after stopping the car noticed that the female driver was sobbing with noticeably red eyes.
The woman said her boyfriend had just thrown her out of her home and taken her keys after she refused to socialize with his friends, and continued to be upset even after she agreed to do so. The woman said she used a hidden spare key to gain entry to her car. Police later arrested the boyfriend for battery on a household member, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, and false imprisonment.
A high school assistant principal called police about 9:30 a.m. Jan. 30 regarding two students who smelled of marijuana.
Police confirmed the smell on a 16-year-old girl, found tobacco wrapping paper in her possession, and arrested her for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police arrived at a Clovis junior high in response to a fire alarm pulled about 2 p.m. Jan. 30 with no emergency warranting an alarm.
The principal warned students in a gym class that he knew one of them had pulled the alarm and offered a reward for cooperation. A student then provided information that led to the suspension of another student. Police reported they would be seeking a warrant for interference with fire control and interference with education.
Responding to a domestic dispute about 5 p.m. Jan. 30 at the 1000 block of East Grand, a 16-year-old girl and her 19-year-old brother said their stepfather had punched the brother in the ribs. Police entered the house and later kicked down a locked bedroom door when they heard no answer, but found the stepfather was not in the house.
The father later arrived at home and said he had been attacked first by his stepdaughter, leaving a knot on his head. Police then arrested the stepfather and stepdaughter on charges of battery on a household member.
Neighbors called police about 5:10 p.m. Jan. 30 reporting a public fight in progress between a number of teenagers at an elementary school playground.
Upon arrival, officers found a 15-year-old boy crying and saying he had been attacked by several people who told him they would beat him up if he continued to claim membership in a Clovis gang. A 14-year-old boy who had been accused told police that the 15-year-old had provoked his friends and that they had been attacked first. The younger boy said he spent time hanging around with members of a rival gang but was not a member.
Police observed injuries on both juveniles and called a juvenile probation officer to evaluate the situation after determining that both were on probation.
A father called police to the 600 block of John Doe about 7:20 p.m. Jan. 30 after he found what he suspected to be drug paraphernalia in his 24-year-old daughter’s room.
The father said he was concerned for his daughter but did not want to have charges filed. Police advised the father to take the drug-related items to the police department for destruction but did not file a criminal complaint.
While patrolling in the area of Sixth and Hinkle streets shortly after midnight Saturday, police noticed two men ducking behind a shed and saw a third man flee as officers approached.
Police found marijuana on the two men and arrested them for possession of marijuana. The third man was later found hiding behind a doghouse and was arrested for possession of alcohol, evading and eluding an officer, and minor in possession of alcohol.
All three were determined to be juveniles and released to the custody of their parents.
About 1 p.m. Saturday, police received an alert that a fugitive from Casper, Wyo., was going to be coming to Clovis to have his taxes done at a local tax preparation office.
Police arrested the 30-year-old man for being a fugitive from justice and for larceny under $250.
Responding to a report of shots fired at the corner of Fourth and Maple streets about 10:18 p.m. Saturday, police found a man sitting in a vehicle and trying to start the car. Officers noticed a bag of marijuana in plain sight and arrested the man for possession of marijuana.
Officers also found several men pushing a white car down Fourth Street toward Prince Street, and saw the engine smoking and leaking fluid. Closer inspection showed bullet holes in the hood and numerous shell casings and bullet fragments near the car.
The vehicle’s occupants said another car had pulled alongside them and started shooting, but they did not recognize the car or its occupants.
Police found a man passed out in a car parked in a handicap space in a bar parking lot about 10:48 p.m. Saturday.
The man could not speak intelligently even after being awakened, so police took him into protective custody at the county jail and also booked him for open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and parking in a handicap zone.
Dispatchers sent police to the scene of what was reported to be a large fight at the 2000 block of Debra about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, officers found a man with a bloody face and bloody torn shirt who said he had been jumped by people inside a residence.
When police began clearing out a large number of people in the residence, the man began shouting profanities at those leaving, was repeatedly warned to stop, and was arrested for disorderly conduct after he continued to yell.
