Fire razes Clovis home

The Clovis Fire Department is still searching for the cause of a fire that did about $65,000 damage Thursday morning to a one-family home at the 1800 block of Gerry.

According to fire department reports, the department responded at 7:49 a.m., arriving at the scene five minutes later with six trucks and 10 firefighters to a single story brick veneer home and found heavy smoke coming from a converted garage window. The entire room was engulfed in flames upon arrival, so firefighters used two fire lines to attack the blaze from the outside while two more firefighters broke open the front door of the home and verified that nobody was still inside.

Firefighters reported that they brought the blaze under control by 8:05 a.m. but remained on the scene until 11:44 a.m. doing extensive overhaul of the structure, clearing out the room where the fire had ignited and using a suction machine to remove smoldering material from the attic.

No firefighters or residents were injured in the blaze.
