James Fred Robinson, 92, of Lovington died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Center in Lovington.

He was born on July 3, 1911, in Lovington.

He married Loeta Fowler on Oct. 18, 1930, in Lovington. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1923. He had a dairy and a farm on land that had been homesteaded by his family. He was a deputy with the sheriff’s office from 1947 until 1957, and chief of police in Lovington for 18 years. In 1976 he was named Director of Public Safety for the city, retiring in 1976. He served many years as president of the New Mexico Sheriff’s Association. He was a member of the Rotary Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include five children, Cherrill Black (and husband, Ross) of Lovington, Jimmie Joe Robinson (Bunchie) of Clovis, Eddie Mack Robinson (Janice) of Orlando, Fla., Valle Jean Golden (Bill) of Morris, Okla., and Joyce Caudle (Robert) of Lovington; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

David Stewart officiated the services.

Burial was at Lovington Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Ronnie, James Ross, Rick, Rob, Sean and Ross Thomas Black, Jimmy Robinson, Bill Golden III and Marc Caudle.

Arrangements were by Stevens Funeral Home of Lovington.
