Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Thank You Parents
During parent/teacher conferences 324 people signed in representing 85 percent of our students. Principal Steve Harris expressed his appreciation for all who came to visit about their children’s grades. He states that by parents and teachers working with students as a team effort, students receive the most from their education experience at PJHS.
No School Monday
All Portales district schools will be closed Monday in observation of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Dr. Jim Holloway, superintendent, encourages students and their families to research the contributions King made to ending segregation in our nation.
Basketball Games
The boys have three days of games planned next week. Tuesday both eighth grade teams and the seventh-grade “A” team invite the Marshall Kittens to Portales. Thursday both the seventh and eighth grade “B” teams host Tucumcari. Saturday all four of the boys’ teams take a road trip to Ruidoso.
The Marshall girls invite Portales girls’ eighth-grade “A” and “B” teams and the seventh-grade “A” team to head for Clovis. Thursday finds the seventh- and eighth-grade “B” teams heading for games at Tucumcari. Saturday both the seventh- and eighth- grade “A” and “B” teams host their Ruidoso counterparts.
GEAR-UP Educational Trip
Friday found PJHS seventh-grade students loading buses to tour Eastern New Mexico University. GEAR-UP staff organizes the field trip to acquaint students with the resources and educational opportunities they have available at ENMU. University students guide each group through the campus. Following the trip, each group participates in a knowledge contest to recall important physical features of the university.
