Commission considers tax hike

The Clovis city commission will consider a resolution to put a one-quarter percent gross receipt tax increase on the ballot in March 2004 at its regular meeting Thursday.

The commission will meet at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the Clovis-Carver Public Library’s North Annex.

If passed, the gross receipt tax increase would be used for municipal infrastructure, including work on or acquisition of new public buildings, construction or improvement of water, wastewater or solid waste facilities, acquisition or improvement of firefighting equipment, work on city streets, alleys, bridges or rights of way, work on airport facilities, city land or parks and payment of gross receipts tax revenue bonds, according to city documents.

The commission also will consider funding for the additional infrastructure the city will need to treat water from the Southwest Cheese plant.

It also will consider awarding a contract for golf professional services at the municipal golf course.
