Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:
A resident at the 800 block of East Eighth Street called police about 10 a.m. on Oct. 18 to report he had found a baggie of white powder in his front yard.
Police tested the powder, determined it was cocaine, and took it into evidence to be destroyed.
About 10 p.m. on Oct. 18, police responded to a house where a young woman said she had been “dragging Main” with friends when six or seven female passengers in another vehicle smashed out a window of her car with a bat after verbally harassing her.
Police took a report of the damage but the driver was unable to identify the perpetrators.
Police heard a loud noise about 1 a.m. Oct. 19 near the corner of Humphrey Road and Mabry Drive that sounded like a natural gas leak. Upon inspection, officers found that a natural gas line had been severed after a vehicle left the roadway and crashed into the gas line. The gas line was nearly 300 feet off the road in a field.
PNM personnel estimated damage at $20,000. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle that caused the damage.
A junior high principal called police about 8:30 a.m. Monday regarding a fight in the gym between two 13-year-old girls.
School officials said the girls were fighting over a boy and both had been sent home from school. Police reported that both would be cited upon their return to school.
Police responded about 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 to the 300 block of Sheridan regarding a public fight in progress. A 15-year-old girl told police she had been attacked outside her house by two girls who got out of three cars containing about a dozen girls.
The girl’s mother said she ran out of her house to pull the two girls off her daughter and then was herself attacked. Police reported arrest warrants would be obtained for the two girls.
A high school assistant principal called police Monday regarding a fight the previous week in which two boys threw punches at each other.
Police reported they would cite both 15-year-old boys for public affray.
Two vehicles sustained moderate damage in a crash on the corner of Mitchell and 14th Street about 3:45 p.m. Monday. Several people in both vehicles were transported to Plains Regional Medical Center for treatment.
A 30-year-old driver of a 1992 Ford told police she was not paying attention when she was westbound on 14th Street and hit the rear of a 2002 Chevy, whose driver said he was waiting to turn into a restaurant parking lot. The Ford driver was cited for careless driving and no insurance.
