Clovis man charged in theater robberies

Clovis police have made additional charges against a 21-year-old Clovis man in connection with a series of summer armed robberies, including three at North Plains Cinema 4.

Sammy Guerrero, of 1709 Laura Lane, is being held in Curry County Adult Detention Center on $150,000 cash bond. He is charged with multiple counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted armed robbery, multiple counts of assault with intent to commit a violent felony and multiple counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Guerrero was originally arrested Sept. 5 and charged with Sept. 4 robberies of the McDonald’s at 214 West 14th St. and the Long John Silvers at 1101 Mabry St., which occurred within just a few minutes of each other.

Guerrero has since been charged in connection with additional robberies:

Police said a second suspect may have been involved in the robberies, but no additional arrests have been made.

According to an arrest affidavit, police have a identified a white, late-model Chevrolet truck belonging to Guerrero as matching the description of a truck seen leaving the scene of the July 23 attempted robbery at the theater.

While watching surveillance videos of two of the robberies, police Det. Keith Farkas noticed that one of the suspects appeared to have a teardrop-shaped tattoo on his right arm. The mark appears to look like a tattoo Guerrero has on the same part of his right arm, the affadavit said.

During questioning Sept. 16, Guerrero refused to let his tattoo be photographed and refused to extend his right arm out to his side so Farkas could see it in a position similar to that on the videos, it said.

Three robbery victims have identified a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol taken from the apartment of Guerrero’s girlfriend as the same gun used in the Sept. 4 robbery of Long John Silvers. Also, one of the witnesses has said Guerrero’s is the same voice as the one he heard from the suspect in that robbery, the affidavit said.
