Rev. G. E. (Gene) Richardson, 73, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at his home in Logan.

Rev. Richardson was born June 25, 1930, in Okmulge, Okla. He married Clara Jo Winfrey on Aug. 28, 1949.

He served 44 years as an ordained minister of the United Methodist Church, serving churches in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Starting in 1954 in San Jon, he served in Clovis, Tucumcari, Portales, Las Alamos and Grady.

He had a bachelor of music degree from Oklahoma City University and a bachelor of divinity from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He was past president of the Tucumcari Masonic Lodge, a member of the Tucumcari Kiwanis Club, board secretary of the Tucumcari Helping Hands Hospice and chairman of the board of trustees of Logan United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Logan; four daughters, Clara Richardson of Abilene, Texas, Lee Ann Davis (husband, Gerry) of Santa Fe, Lynn Hanawalt (Ellis) of Tucumcari, Elizabeth Groves (Glen) of Aptos, Calif.; a brother, Harry Richardson, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; a sister, Mary Humpharies, of Wichita Falls, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Rev. Jeanie Wimmiams, Rev. Joe Wood and Rev. Gerry Lightwine will officiate services.

Burial will be in the family plot at the Logan Cemetery.

The family requests donations be made to the Tucumcari Helping Hands Hospice at 615 South 2nd St., Tucumcari, or to the United Methodist Church of Logan.
