Inch of rain falls on Clovis

Clovis received its highest rainfall total since Aug. 30 on Saturday night. Early reports from the National Weather Service in Albuquerque showed Clovis receiving up to 1.2 inches by 8:30 p.m.

On Aug. 30, Clovis received 1.21 inches.

Towns farther west were hit even harder, according to meterologist Kerry Jones.

“We had some signficant rains upwards of 3 to 4 inches that fell near Sumner Dam,” Jones said. “In your area, mostly it was in House, Ragland, and up toward Quay County,. The storms moved southeastward and you caught the end of it.”

Jones said his office placed Curry County under a flood advisory, but as of 8:30 p.m. Saturday he didn’t have any reports of flood damage.

The rainfall was caused by an upper level disturbance that crossed out of northern New Mexico and interacted with some moisture from west Texas, Jones said.
