Glidewell in stable condition

A Clovis man who rammed his truck into a train just off U.S. Highway 60-84 Monday was listed in stable condition Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Derek Glidewell, 41, was listed in critical condition earlier this week at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, after being flown there from Plains Regional Medical Center following the accident.

The Covenant Hospital floor supervisor, who declined to give his name, said Tuesday that Glidewell had been placed on a ventilator. He said he could provide no more information about Glidewell’s condition.

Glidewell was westbound at 9 a.m. Monday on U.S. 60-84 east of Clovis when his truck left its lane, crossed the median and the highway’s eastbound lanes, went through a fence and struck an unmoving train on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks, said New Mexico State Police Lt. Rick Durham.
