    At the Roosevelt County Commission meeting Tuesday commissioners: • Approved a request to provide almost $600,000 in matching money, enabling Roosevelt General Hospital to receive state community hospital money for the 2010-2011 fiscal year. The county money comes from the indigent fund. The blaze Tuesday gutted a two-story home at 401 Sheldon Street, killing two family cats and displacing the family, said Clovis Fire Chief Ray Westerman.     File photo The Curry County Commission is asking the state to name the 467 overpass in honor of Leroy “J.R.” Segura, a Clovis soldier killed in Iraq in 2006. The Curry County Commission will petition the state name the State Road 467 overpass near Cannon Air Force Base after a Clovis soldier killed in Iraq. The change would honor Sgt.     Interim Administrator Carlos Ortiz says the Curry County jail is fully staffed and he is addressing several serious issues recently discovered with furloughs. Ortiz’ disclosures were part of a presentation Tuesday to county commissioners. It is the first time in years the jail has had all positions filled, Ortiz told commissioners.     The Clovis MainStreet organization is looking for judges for the annual Christmas Light Parade, according to executive director Robyne Beaubien. Beaubien said the organization is looking for three judges. The organization prefers judges not affiliated with anyone in the parade to ensure no bias.   • Public Health Office to administer 2,000 doses of swine flu vaccine

    The Clovis Public Health Office plans to administer 2,000 free doses of the swine flu vaccine Thursday. Gayla Jacquess, nurse manager at the office, said the vaccine is part of an allotment the Centers for Disease Control gives each state. The state disperses the vaccine to counties. The vaccines are given to four priority groups recommended by the CDC. The vaccine will be provided to children ages six months to 5 years old, anyone age 6 through 64 with a chronic disease, pregnant women and parents of infants less than 6...

    The driver of a wrong-way vehicle police say claimed the life of former Portales High three-sport standout Ashleah Richards is facing felony charges. Jimmey Scott Barnhill of Midland, Texas, was indicted Nov. 19 on one count of intoxicated manslaughter for the death of Richards, 21. Police said on Oct. 11, Barnhill drove his vehicle south in the northbound lanes of I-27 and smashed into Richards’s car about three miles south of Hale Center, Texas.     AARP is seeking volunteers statewide to help others with their income taxes. All volunteers are trained in basic tax law and tax forms as well as how to use computers and software. Volunteers use their knowledge, along with computers and software provided to prepare tax returns for others. Volunteers are asked to serve a minimum of one-half day a week from Feb. 1 to April 15.
