  • Faith: Who should we trust? The God who loves us

    Updated Oct 12, 2021

I never thought this could happen, but I know now that it could. Imagine for a moment. Imagine the losers of our last two presidential elections calling a joint press conference and apologizing to the American people. First of all, you’ll have to imagine politicians sincerely apologizing for anything, but stay with me on this. Imagine words expressed with deep feeling: “We lost. We just flat lost. We ran lousy campaigns and failed miserably to add to our voter bases. Behaving shamefully, we (they take turns here) blamed nef...

  • Quake concerns growing

    Carlsbad Current-Argus, Syndicated content|Updated Oct 12, 2021

Growing concerns about earthquakes in the Permian Basin caused by wells oil and gas operators use to dispose of wastewater led Texas regulators to curtail the allowed amount of water being injected and block any new such wells in the Midland area. In New Mexico's side of the prolific oil and gas region, regulators said they've also noticed an uptick in seismic activity blamed on the oil and gas sector and its traditional method of water disposal. Recently, oil and gas boomed...

the Staff of The News|Updated Oct 12, 2021

BOVINA — Bovina struggled through a tough schedule in its pre-district slate, intentionally set up that way by Mustangs coach Coby Emery. When they edged winless Sudan 6-0 last Friday in their District 2-2A Division II opener, Emery said the Mustangs took a large step in their bid to win a district title. He sees Sudan (0-6, 0-1) and New Home (4-3, 1-0) as the top challengers in the district race. Now they host the team with the district’s best record, Ropes (5-1, 0-1), on Friday. Emery believes records are somewhat dec...

the Staff of The News|Updated Oct 12, 2021

CLOVIS — Clovis High’s boys tried to hang with Hobbs in a District 4-5A soccer match on Saturday at Leon Williams Stadium. Coach Greg Trujillo said the Wildcats just didn’t have it. Hobbs got a goal late in the first half and another towards the end of the contest to secure a 3-0 victory over the Cats. Meantime, the Eagles’ defense held Clovis without a shot on goal. “We came out and played very flat,” Trujillo said. “We knew they were going to move the ball all over the place, but we just had no energy.” Senior forward/...
