RICHARDSON, Texas — Another highlight-reel game from Justin Manyweather has netted the Eastern New Mexico senior top honors from the Lone Star Conference.
Manyweather, who set school records with 16 catches and 234 receiving yards in Saturday’s 50-47 win over Western New Mexico, was named the LSC’s Offensive Player of the Week, according to a release from the conference office.
The award is the first for a Greyhound player this season.
The Fullerton, California native was targeted 17 times on his 16 receptions, and his two-touchdown day included the game-winning touchdown.
Other Week 6 awards went to:
• J.T. Cavender, West Texas A&M: The freshman claimed the defensive player of the week honors with 15 tackles, nine solo, to go with a pass breakup and quarterback hurry in the Buffs’ 31-15 win over Angelo State.
• Gage Urias, West Texas A&M: The junior kicker went 4-for-4 on extra point attempts, improving his season mark to 27-for-27, and booted a 32-yard field goal in the win over Angelo State.
This is Manyweathers’ second player of the week award, and first as the top offensive player. He was named the top special teams player in the fifth week of the 2019 season — one of eight LSC weekly awards claimed by Greyhound players that season. The conference did not have an official season in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though some teams played brief nonconference spring schedules.
Manywather currently leads the LSC in total touchdowns with eight and receiving touchdowns with seven, and is second with 62.8 receiving yards per game.
The Greyhounds return home this week, with the Wagon Wheel Game against West Texas A&M Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Greyhound Stadium.
